BREAST REDUCTION is a very commonly
requested procedure and is usually performed for functional as well as
cosmetic reasons. Most people with overly large breasts experience back
pain, neck pain, shoulder grooving, rashes under the breasts, an
increased incidence of arm pain and in some cases an increased incidence
of migraine headaches. They always look much heavier than they really
are and have trouble with exercise and with clothing. For these reasons,
BREAST REDUCTION is often covered by medical insurance.
Historically, to perform BREAST
REDUCTION, a surgeon would remove the patient's nipples and
replace them as grafts. This is very rarely necessary today. Instead,
the nipples are repositioned without detaching them. Despite this, there
is a decrease in the likelihood of a BREAST REDUCTION patient being able
to breast feed.
Standard BREAST REDUCTION have employed
incisions around the areola, down and across the fold under the breast,
leaving extensive and unpredictable scars. The LeJeour BREAST
REDUCTION,
named for the European surgeon who developed the procedure, is a
significant advance. It allows us to achieve a better shape while
completely eliminating the largest scar! There is no scar in the fold
underneath. The only incisions in this procedure are around the areola
and down.
This surgery can now be
done on an outpatient basis in about an hour!
While all BREAST REDUCTION patients are
trading smaller breasts for permanent scars of the skin, the vast
majority are extremely pleased with their results. They look thinner and
feel better!
-
Breast Reduction can usually be done in 1-2 hours.
-
Overnight stay is almost never needed.
-
This procedure is done asleep in most cases.
-
Lift is done along with the reduction giving a better shape.
-
Most
activities can be resumed in a week.
-
Loss of feeling in the nipples is possible, but unusual. Most cannot
breast feed after reduction.
-
Almost all patients are very happy happy that they feel better, are
more comfortable and look better in clothing.
-
Very few will notice that these people have reduced their breasts,
most think they lost weight!

Several products are available that may
aid in reduction of scarring. These include Cica Care silicone gel
sheeting, Kelocote silicone cream, and my preference which is ScarGuard
(WWW.ScarGuard.com) .
ScarGuard combines several of these modalities and is easier to use.
Whichever one you choose, I believe that
scarring is, in fact, improved by using these types of products.
